HAZARDS IDENTIFICATION Emergency Overview: Danger: Flammable Liquid. Keep away from heat, sparks, and flame. Causes severe eye burns. May irritate the skin. Aspiration into the lungs may occur during ingestion or vomiting, resulting in lung injury. HMIS Classification: Health: *2 Flammability: 3 Physical Hazard: 0 NFPA Rating: Health: 2 Flammability: 3 Reactivity: 0 4. FIRST AID MEASURES Eye Contact: In case of contact, or suspected contact, immediately flush eyes with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes and get medical attention immediately after flushing. Ingestion: If swallowed, give at least 3-4 glasses of water, but do not induce vomiting. Do not give anything by mouth to an unconscious or convulsing person. Get medical attention. If vomiting occurs, keep head lower than hips to prevent aspiration. Risk of damage to lungs exceeds poisoning risk. Inhalation: If inhaled, remove to fresh air. If not breathing give artificial respiration, preferably mouth-to-mouth. If breathing is difficult give oxygen. Get medical attention. FIRST AID MEASURES Skin Contact: Wash with soap and water. Get medical attention if irritation persists. Remove contaminated clothing and shoes, and launder before reuse. 5. FIRE FIGHTING MEASURES Flammable Properties Flash Point ?F(?C): 53 F (Lowest Component) Flash Point Method: TAG Closed Cup Flammable Limits in Air - Lower (%): 2% vol in air (Lowest Component) Flammable Limits in Air - Upper (%): 12.7% vol in air (Lowest Component) Autoignition Temperature ?F(?C): 750 F (Lowest Component) Extinguishing Media: Alcohol foam. Carbon dioxide. Dry chemical. Use water spray to keep containers cool that are exposed to heat or flames. Water fog. Protection Of Fire-Fighters: Special Fire-Fighting Procedures: Wear approved positive-pressure self-contained breathing apparatus and protective clothing. Do not direct a solid stream of water or foam into hot, burning pools; this may cause frothing and increase fire intensity. Closed containers may explode if exposed to extreme heat. Hazardous Combustion Products: Carbon Dioxide. Carbon Monoxide. Fumes and Smoke. Aerosol Comments: Not Applicable 6. ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES Personal Precautions: Wear appropriate protective clothing and equipment to prevent skin and eye contact. Avoid breathing vapor. When airborne exposure limits are exceeded use NIOSH approved respiratory protection equipment appropriate to the material and/or its components. Spill Procedures: Wear protective equipment specified. Only trained and qualified personel should handle any spilled or leaked product. Avoid all sources of ignition; heat, sparks and open flames. Action to be taken if material is released or spilled: Remove sources of ignition. Increase area ventilation. Release causes immediate fire/explosion hazard. Stop release at source. Dike area and contain. Absorb spills on inert material such as perlite, vermiculite, sand or dirt. Place in double polyethylene bags. Isolate from other waste materials. Environmental Precautions: Do not allow to enter sanitary drains, sewer or surface and subsurface waters. 7. HANDLING AND STORAGE Handling and Storage: Danger: Flammable. Avoid breathing vapors, if exposed to high vapor concentration, leave area at once. Keep container closed when not in use. Avoid contact with skin and eyes. Use only in a well ventilated area. Keep away from heat and open flame. Keep away from food and smoking materials. Wash hands before eating and smoking. Do Not Swallow. Avoid excessive storage temperature 8. EXPOSURE CONTROLS/PERSONAL PROTECTION Engineering Controls: Exhaust ventilation. Showers. Eyewash stations. Eyes: Chemical goggles; also wear a face shield if splashing hazard exists. Skin Protection: PVC coated apron or clothing. Launder contaminated clothing before reuse. Respiratory Protection: Use local exhaust to capture vapor, mists or fumes, if necessary. Provide ventilation sufficient to prevent exceeding recommended exposure limit or buildup explosive concentrations of vapor in air. No smoking, or use of flame or other ignition sources. Do not breath mist. An approved respirator (i.e. NIOSH, etc.) should be worn when exposures are expected to exceed the applicable limits. 9.
